Si vogliono analizzare i processi cognitivi che stanno alla base della creazione dei due tipi di metafore. The role of implicit theories in the non-expert translation process

Research into the role of implicit theories in decision-making covers a broad area ranging from personal to political relationships, and from private to professional life. To date, translation studies have paid little attention to the influence of translators’ knowledge and beliefs in the translation process, and even less to the role of implicit theories. In a pilot study with translation trainees, we attempted to reconstruct their theories about translation and discern to what extent these theories influence both the translation process and the translated text. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir identificēt, kā metaforas funkcionē rakstos par jauniem un maziem uzņēmumiem. Etymology and conceptual metaphor; the case of 'in vain' in Greek and Latin

The two Greek adverbs for 'in vain' have sill no good etymology above all because it is difficult to determine tje exact meaning of the connected roots. Yje Author takes into consideration the etymology proposed on the ground of phonetic laws and explains the meaning of the connected roots postulating a conceptual metaphor which is clear also in Latin and in Late Latin. The metaphor, grounded on the concept of a movement that is denied de facto, stremgthens the etymological conjectures.

This paper analyzes, in a comparative way, the conceptual metaphors (Lakoff and Johnson, 1998) used in the German text «Kassandra» of Christa Wolf and in its Italian translation. The metaphors’ translation is important for two reasons. First it shows the socio-cultural aspects that turn around the source language and the target language. On the other hand, it can investigate the role of the language and the linguistic choices. This paper will analyze the metaphors’ translations using a mixed approach, both cognitive linguistics and semiotics but it also focuses on the translation theories.
